Privacy Policy
Effective October 5, 2026 · Version française
Lunchou is an app that helps parents plan their children’s school lunches. It is operated by Marie-Charlotte Cantera, 2121 avenue Papineau, Montreal, Quebec H2K 0E6, Canada (“we”).
This policy explains what personal information the app uses, why, where it is stored and what your rights are. It is written to comply with Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector (as amended by Law 25), Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, and the privacy laws that apply to users in the United States.
1. The essentials
- Your profile and your children’s information stay on your phone. Lunchou has no online account or server: your name, your email, and your children’s first names, photos and preferences are never sent to us. We have no access to them.
- Payment is handled by Apple or Google. We never see your card number or your address.
- No ads, no selling. We do not sell, rent, trade or “share” (for targeted advertising) any personal information. The app contains no advertising and no ad tracking.
2. Information stored on your phone
Your parent profile
In the Profile tab, you can enter your first name, last name and email. These fields are optional. They are only used to personalize the app. Your email is not transmitted and we do not write to you at that address.
Your children
To plan lunches, you can enter in the app, for each child:
- their first name (or a nickname) and a color;
- their grade (kindergarten or elementary, and the year);
- whether they need to eat lactose-free;
- the foods they like and dislike;
- a photo, if you choose to add one.
The app also keeps your weekly menus, favorite recipes, grocery list and notification preferences.
This information is stored only in the app’s storage on your device. It is only used to show the menu, adapt portions and ingredients, and build the grocery list. It is not sent to us or to any third party.
Photos. When you tap a child’s circle, the app asks for permission to access your photos. It only uses the photo you pick, does not access the rest of your library and does not upload any image. You can remove this permission at any time in your phone’s settings.
Notifications. If you turn on reminders (the evening before school days, or Sunday for the weekly menu), the app asks for permission to show notifications. These reminders are scheduled directly on your phone: no notification identifier is sent to us or to a notification service. You can turn them off in the Profile tab or in your phone’s settings.
Backups. If your phone’s backups are turned on (iCloud or Google), this data may be included in your device backup under Apple’s or Google’s terms. We have no access to it.
First name rather than full name. We suggest entering only your child’s first name or a nickname. A last name is never needed.
3. Subscription information
The Lunchou Family subscription is sold through Apple’s App Store or Google Play. To check whether your subscription is active, the app uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., United States), which receives:
- a random anonymous identifier created by the app (it contains neither your name nor your email);
- the purchase receipt sent by Apple or Google: plan, price, currency, purchase, trial, renewal and cancellation dates;
- technical device information needed for the service: model, operating system, app version, language, store country and IP address.
This information is only used to activate, renew and restore your subscription, and to produce our sales statistics. Apple and Google process your payment under their own privacy policies:
4. Where information is stored
RevenueCat, Apple and Google may store the information described in section 3 on servers outside Quebec and Canada, including in the United States, where it is subject to local laws. Before using these providers, we assessed that the protection they offer is adequate, and they are bound by contract to use this information only to provide their services.
5. Children
Lunchou is intended for parents and guardians, not for children, and is not directed to children under 13. Information about a child is entered by their parent or guardian, who consents by entering it, and it stays on the parent’s device (see section 2). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, write to us and we will delete it.
6. Retention and deletion
- Data on your phone: it stays until you change it or remove a child. The “Erase my data” button in the Profile tab deletes your profile, children, menus and favorites at once. Deleting the app also erases them permanently. Your subscription is not affected: you cancel it in your Apple or Google account settings.
- Subscription data at RevenueCat: it is kept as long as the subscription exists, then for the period required by our accounting and tax obligations. You can ask for its deletion at any time (section 8).
7. Security
Because your children’s information never leaves your device, its security mainly depends on your phone’s: passcode, updates and encrypted backups. Exchanges with RevenueCat, Apple and Google are encrypted.
If a privacy incident involving information we hold presented a risk of serious harm, we would notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
8. Your rights
You may at any time ask us to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct it;
- delete it or stop using it;
- receive it in a structured, commonly used technological format;
- withdraw your consent.
US residents, including California residents, have these rights too, and we will not treat you differently for using them. Write to our privacy officer (section 9). We reply within 30 days. To find your subscription record, include your purchase date or attach your Apple or Google receipt.
If you are a Quebec resident and are not satisfied with our answer, you may contact the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.

10. Changes
We may update this policy, for example if the app changes. The date at the top of the page shows the latest update. If a change affects how your information is used or shared, we will tell you in the app before it applies.
